What is it?

Diabetes affects the small blood vessels in the eye, and can lead to these vessels closing down and/or leaking. Both of these situations may lead to visual loss, particularly if affecting the central part of the retina; the macula.

How may it be treated?

This depends on the type of retinopathy present, and needs to be discussed on an individual basis. The treatment can involve laser or injections into the eye. Mr Chandra will discuss the options at length with you.
